Season Recap: Most powerful offense in school history guides TFS to State Runner-Up
From start to finish, the Lady Indians were battle-tested and made yet another deep postseason run
Prior to the first serve, Matt Heyl went on record and stated that this would be likely the best team in TFS history. He wasn't wrong. From start to finish, the 2025 season provided an unforgettable run, culminating in earning another banner to hang in the gym.
When the dust settled, the Lady Indians went 27-9 overall, netting a .750 win percentage. That's the second-best mark in program history to only the .761 put up by the 2022 State Championship team, which won a record 35 matches. There were a couple of similarities in that '22 team to the '25 version - one being coach Heyl and the lone player from that team in Rebecca Heyl. The other element that existed on both teams was the spirit and fun the girls played with throughout the season.
Couple that chemistry with what Heyl also called his most powerful offense he's ever had, and the result took care of itself. It was never easy, as Tallulah Falls went up against some of the best teams in Georgia and Tennessee. The Lady Indians won an astonishing 11 matches against top-10 ranked programs, which is a school record. The girls finished with a #2 ranking after advancing to the State Championship match against St. Anne-Pacelli.
Highlights of the season included a 10-match win streak, a deep run in the Rally Cup Tournament, winning the program's third region title, Heyl recording his 200th victory, and every playoff win along the way. Individually, the trio of seniors in Becca Heyl, Margalida Amengual Sanchez, and Laura Ruiz Rendon were special. Juniors Sofia Livianos and Shelby Whisnant were impact players, and sophomores Corinne Swinton, Lily Smith, and Stella Bowman were instrumental in the team's success. Some young JV players got their first varsity experience at times, and the team peaked at the perfect time.
Offensively, Heyl and Livianos tied for the team lead with 267 kills, while Swinton finished with 212. Livianos (294 digs, 63 aces) was a welcomed addition to the lineup. Swinton (73 aces, 35 blocks) joined Heyl, Sanchez, and Livianos as the four All-Region selections, and Matt Heyl earned Coach of the Year honors. Sanchez recorded team-bests of 98 aces and 869 assists, the second-most ever in a season, (1,326 for her career; third all-time).
The Lady Indians defeated Loganville Christian in late September to clinch the region crown, and beat Fulton Science Academy in the Sweet 16 and Loganville in the Elite 8 to advance to their second Final 4 in program history. Once there, TFS knocked off top-ranked King's Academy in an all-time thriller to reach the championship match.
