TFS reaches 20-win mark with back-to-back tourney wins
Lady Indians start out Rocky Top Tournament with wins
The #4-ranked Lady Indians traveled to Sevierville, TN for the annual Rocky Top Tournament, and opened pool play with back-to-back wins. TFS beat Bearden (TN) 2-0 and followed it with a 2-0 win over Creek Wood (TN), a #2-ranked team.
Margalida Amengual Sanchez entered with 998 assists, and reached 1,000 for her career in the first set. She opened the contest with five straight aces, and added a couple more by the end. Corinne Swinton had five aces, while Lily Smith and Laura Ruiz Rendon also had a couple of aces, and Rebecca Heyl and Sofia Livianos each recorded one. Tallulah downed Bearden 25-17, 28-26.
In the win over #2 Creek Wood, it was a rocky start for the Lady Indians. Heyl stepped up to energize and motivate the girls. It was needed with a 3-hour break between matches. After going down 11-17, the girls rallied for a 25-23 win in the first set. Heyl had seven kills, while Swinton had some key aces (three of them along with four kills). Livianos added five kills and an ace, and Rendon had some great coverage defensively as TFS clinched the match with a 25-19 win.
The wins push the Lady Indians to a 20-5 overall record with now 10 straight wins, just three shy of the school record.
