Season Recap: Track & Field
Another banner year for the track and field teams
History continues to be made by the TFS Track and Field program. The Lady Indians completed the season at state with their best-ever finish, while the Indians had a second straight year landing just outside the top-5. Several school records, PRs, and state top-10 finishes materialized from the countless hours of hard work that no one but the team sees.
The Lady Indians had a banner year under first-year coach Jamie Jimison. The girls for the first time earned a Region Runner-Up finish, and piggy-backed off that with a program-high 3rd-place finish at the State Championship meet. The #3 final ranking is but a glimpse of how good this team was.
Joanna Miller entered the season a state champ after winning the 100 last season. She defended that title and added another as well, and broke the school records in the 100 and 200 along the way (multiple times beating her own mark). At region, she won the 200 and 400, giving her now five career region titles individually at the end of her junior year. At state, Miller won the 100 and 200 in record times, and was runner-up in the 400 and part of the 4th-place 4x400 relay team. She also recorded a 5th-place finish in the long jump, and was the Region High Point Award winner for a second straight season.
Mary Kate Ball also had major success, as she broke her own record in the 800 at state while finishing third. She was an integral piece of the 4x800 Relay 3rd-place team. Others who had top-15 performances at state for the girls include Olivia Henderson (7th in 3200, 10th in 1600) and Naomi Russo (11th in 3200, 14th in 1600).
The Indians carved out a 4th-place finish at region and 6th-place showing at state, matching their last season finishes at both. Ryan Anderson had a stellar season, and broke Evan Prince's 800 record during the season. Anderson, a junior, was the region champ in the 400 and 800. At the state meet, he was the State Runner-Up in the 400 and placed 4th in the 800 and in the 4x800 Relay. He also anchored the 4x400 Relay to a thrilling state title by a fraction of a second - which simultaneously almost broke a school record.
In the state meet, the boys had others with top-15 performances, including Teagan Penland (8th in 3200, 8th in 1600), Alex Stefanovic (6th in Shot Put), and the 4x800 and 4x400 Relays. The championship relay team included Miguel Smith, Penland, AJ Dills, and Anderson.
