Second doubles line clinches playoff win for Lady Indians
TFS secures 3-2 victory in first round of SML tournament
The MS Lady Indians won 3-2 at Rabun Gap on Monday evening, as the 2-doubles line of Olivia Newkirk and Quinn Fessett clinched the victory in the opening round of the Southern Mountain League tournament.
"Big time performance for our girls to advance to the semifinals," says coach Anthony Cox. "Ellie got her first win of the season at 3-singles in the biggest match all year. Joanna got another in the win column with a solid performance at 2-singles."
It was tied at 2-2 when Newkirk and Fessett had a masterful performance to clinch the win as teammates cheered on.
"It's been amazing to watch their improvement throughout the season, especially the second half," adds Cox. "The best news is that we get to play on our home court in the tournament for the first time in five years."
The Lady Indians (5-5) advance to the SML Semifinals, which takes place at home on Wednesday.
