Griffis, Stafford earn Morris C. Johnson awards
Senior athletes collect major honors from GIAA
A pair of Tallulah Falls senior student athletes earned prestigious honors by being named recipients of the Morris C. Johnson GIAA Coaches Association Academic-Athlete Awards.
Only seven athletes from Class 4A earned the honors, and both Carsyn Griffis and Charlotte Stafford of Tallulah Falls were among the winners.
The purpose of the award, as stated by GIAA, is to recognize senior athletes who excelled in athletics as well as in the classroom.
Criteria for the award includes: being in the top 10% of the graduating class, holding a cumulative 3.75 GPA or higher, and lettering at least twice in the sport they were nominated in.
Griffis has been a standout swimmer for the back-to-back State Champion Lady Indians, and has been an integral part of the cross country team.
Stafford is a 4-time letterman on the tennis team and member of the State Runner-Up Lady Indians, also being part of the doubles state runner-up team and collecting 53 career doubles wins.
