Next Level: Lia Sanjur signs with Saint Mary of the Woods
Point guard is set to play college ball in Indiana
Tallulah Falls adds another next level athlete with the official signing of senior Lia Sanjur with Saint Mary of the Woods College.
"Being able to play at the next level feels amazing and honestly like a dream come true for my family and me," says Lia. "Basketball has been a huge part of my life for many years, so reaching this point makes me really proud of all the hard work and sacrifices it took to get here."
Sanjur (Panama City, Panama) is coming off a season in which she helped guide the Lady Indians to an Elite 8 run. She averaged 7.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.1 steals per game. She was an All-Region Honorable Mention and was a GIAA All-Star Game 'Red Team' participant.
She will join the Saint Mary of the Woods Lady Pomeroys in Saint Mary of the Woods, IN. Saint Mary of the Woods resides in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and are members of the River States Conference.
"I chose Saint Mary of the Woods College because I felt a strong connection with the coaches and really liked the program. They made me feel welcomed and believed in me both as a player and as a person, and I feel like it was the right environment for me to grow academically and athletically."
Sanjur becomes the 19th basketball player from TFS all-time to play at the next level (7th girls player), and the 118th all-time next level athlete. She is the eighth overall athlete this school year to sign, and will be recognized along with all others from the 2025-26 academic year on May 21 at the Next Level Signing Ceremony.
"A lot of hard work has gone into making this possible," adds Lia. "There were many sacrifices along the way. Last season, I had to recover from an ACL injury, which was one of the hardest challenges I've faced, but it taught me to stay patient, disciplined, and to believe in myself. Going through that journey makes this opportunity even more meaningful. Last but not least, I'm thankful for my family, coaches, and teammates who have supported me throughout my process."
