Indians ride hot offense to double header sweep of George Walton
Facing a 4-game slide, the Indians needed a win in a big way. Instead, Tallulah Falls (6-5; 2-4 in region) got two over George Walton on Friday night.
The opening game was an 8-5 win for TFS, while the team won a doozie in the nightcap with a 16-15 final.
GAME ONE
The opener featured a 4-run second and 3-run fifth to lift the team to an 8-5 win. Jordan Milller had a run-scoring single in the second, and Ashton Roache doubled him in. Leslie Sands capped the inning with an RBI single. Sands had a 2-run hit in the fifth as well.
Roache earned the win by going 6.1 innings, striking out four. Alex Stefanovic recorded a 2-out save, his first. He also launched his first TFS homerun. Sands had two hits and three RBI.
GAME TWO
The Indians raced out to a 4-0 lead after the first, and led 8-0 before a furious comeback by George Walton. When the Bulldogs cut it to an 8-3 game, Tallulah got a pair back to make it 10-3. George Walton would score three in the fifth, two in the sixth, and nine in the seventh to send the game to extra innings.
Drew Barron's RBI single in the eighth gave TFS a 16-14 lead. A strikeout stranded the tying run on third as GW had narrowed it down to a 16-15 score, which stood as the final.
Sean Forbes had a 3-run homer for TFS, and drove in four runs with three hits and three runs. Barron had three hits, three runs, and two RBI. Jackson Savage and Miller each had three hits as well, with Miller crossing home four times. Richard Ferguson earned the win in relief.
"Two great team wins," says coach Justin Pollock. "Really proud of our guys and the way they responded after not playing very well the last four games. We showed a lot of maturity and toughness, and played for each other all night."
